Environmental activities

Achievements of the Hospital in environmental health and safety
The Nairobi Hospital was recently awarded 140001:2004. This certification is for effective management of the environment through the elements such as energy, water, fire and the air. To ensure disposal of medical waste, the hospital has recently renovated the state of the art incinerator. The incinerator is a two stage burner system with a capacity of 900 cubic meters per hour. The system also has a purifier to eliminate gaseous contaminates before they leave the chimney into the air.
Waste management

The Hospital has colour coding of waste bags to schemes to ensure sorting at source. We recycle papers and envelopes (with confidentiality being carefully controlled).

Our energy and water saving innovations includes:
• Lights switch off stickers
• Office checklist
• Push time taps in all public washroom
• Hand triggers and sprinklers for gardening instead of hose pipe

Training
Training on the Environmental system is critical to the success of the system.
There are over 16 environmental auditors in the Hospital who are trained to audit the system. Most to the staff at the Hospital has undergone operators training to manage and use the system.
Inspection
Random and surveillance inspections are carried out by the certification body to ensure the system is operational at all times.

The Nairobi Hospital Environment, Health and Safety Policy Statement
The Nairobi Hospital is committed to managing environmental, health and safety matters as an integral part of our operations.

The environment goals of the Hospital are to protect the environment, patients, employees, neighbors and all other customers.

The Hospital will champion the cause for conservation and prudent use of renewable sources of energy. We will minimize the waste generated and work towards the safe treatment and disposal of waste.
